Not quite schadenfreude....

Because the others didn't actually suffer misfortune.

But today's meeting was funny as hell and left me in a wonderful mood. The new VP is a trip, and halfway through the meeting I wanted to stand up and shout, "Halleluia! Preach it, Brother J! Can I have an A-MEN from the congregation???" and this is really weird because I'm Catholic and we never do that.

Details skipped, but he wants to take the company exactly where I had hoped, in the way I'd hoped. I'm on board, I think most of the department is ready to fall at his feet and worship him if he can make this happen. If he delivers half of the dreams it would be amazing, if we hit 25% it will be 100% better than what we're doing now.

Two Cupcakes aren't happy, and one is vewwwy, vewwwy not happy. That one had a meltdown in the meeting and gave the new VP (who doesn't know her from Adam's housecat) attitude, after singing her own praises endlessly. Apparently the entire department is dependent on her! I knew I was out of it, but I really wasn't aware that when anyone had questions about anything in our department they asked her, instead of the director sitting next to me. It was quite...enlightening, in a "must keep face straight and professional" way. The other Cupcake demanded a private meeting with him.

Anyway, no Cupcakes were harmed in the course of the meeting. Nobody's job is threatened, it's really exciting and if they had any experience with the things he was describing they'd be happy dancing. But they don't, and they don't want to leave their comfort zone. They will either put on the big girl panties and get on board with the changes, or not. I don't care. I'm happy with everything I heard. This job could go from unchallenging and dissatisfying to really cool in a month or two. Or not. If not, I'm still on the path to move next spring. But if this works, I may actually decide to stay.

Catherine, "big girl panties"? Love it. From my perspective, your writing has gotten simultaneously looser and stronger recently. What's that about?
Whatever, (she says in a Cupcake-sort of way), keep it up.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking about blogging last night, and how I'm afraid to be "too me" at times for fear of being "outed." Maybe I'm getting over that.
