in La Famiglia Bossy Doggies. I leave for MDS&W, Boy takes off for Seattle, and Girl finally gets an MRI on her back.
I am on vacation. Yeah. And I have some wine, and I am shutting that whole job thing down. I will turn it on Tuesday night. Between now and then, baby, I am outta there. Not that I am really worried about being hunted down for opinions or information or status reports, because I have none to offer. I do piece work. Complicated piece work, to be sure, but totally without that sense of belonging that comes with owning a case, a project, or just an interesting long term problem. I did do a good thing for them this week, in hunting down a thing that was lost in the system - a big expensive thing nobody would have known existed and we found by accident, and then I kept digging until it was, not fixed yet, because that is way above my station, but at least on the radar and handed off to appropriate hands. Yeah, that was my highlight for April! I do useful things, and things I am qualified to do. But they are things I could do from home in my pajamas with a laptop on my knee and the TV on mute.*
Oh, wait, I'm whining - I'm whining on VACATION! WTF?? I am so thrilled to be on VACATION - a real vacation, not vacation days spent to deal with a death in the family, or some other crisis. It's a laughably short vacation - I leave Friday, I'll be back Sunday evening - but it is an escape. A really, really needed escape.
*edited for clarification: I don't WANT to do this job from home in my jammies with a laptop. I want to be involved enough to want to make the damn long drive every morning.
