OMG OMG OMG!!!! And, also...shit.

I'm going to be a Grandma! My son called this afternoon to tell me that he and his girlfriend/fiancee (they were already talking about getting married) are expecting!

No, this isn't the best timing in the world - after they were married and after he'd finished grad school and had a better job would be more practical, but hey, babies sometimes have their own timing. This one has decided it wants to enter the world in early March - they have adjusted to the idea and are happy, I'm happy, it's all good.

I've been walking around repeating, "Wow," in various tones of shock and delight.

Then, while wandering in a daze, I saw a suspicious dark spot in a corner of my living room ceiling, and followed it down alongside the fireplace. Shit. There is a leak somewhere - the chimney chase, the flashing around the chimney, or somewhere else - I have no idea. Remember how I said I was not going to spend another dime on this house? Shit. This is something I can't ignore - and until I get someone to take a look at it, I don't know if it's a minor thing or if we'll have to open up the wall and find a mess. Shit. It also means my planned vacation will probably have to be canceled - I only have so many vacation days, and they will probably have to be spent dealing with getting this diagnosed and fixed. Shit.

But OMG, a BABY!

You are right - bubs have their own timing. Congratulations and best wishes all round. And remember that it is legally impossible for a grandmother to spoil a grandchild!

Best of luck with that teeny, tiny (I hope) leak. Something really nice and simple to fix.

Didn't you knit some baby stuff for future babies??? Apparently, the future is now.

Not much, but there's a pretty gender-neutral grass green feather and fan linen blanket that is just perfect for a summer in the NC mountains baby wrap - looks like it has an owner!

Congrats on the baby, and good luck on the roof.

Congratulations and oh, the knitting possibilities!

(will NOT mention the roof...)

Congratulations, Grandma! Sorry about the roof--hopefully you've caught it in time.

Oh, wild about the verification word! Yes, big changes, but the parents-to-be are very happy, and I knew months back that my son was very happy and had found The One. So while this might not be the most practical timing "on paper," it's a very happy and exciting thing!
