Continued Improvement.

And apparently I make a FAB-u-lous chicken smoothie!  Who knew?  A boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked in the crockpot until it's overcooked and mushy,  a cup or so of Uncle Ben's plain white rice (cooked), a cup or so of low sodium fat free chicken broth,  blended until smoothie texture and thoroughly unappetizing to the human = doggie nirvana!  Add soft, finely chopped veggies as needed.  I'm thinking some tiny peas tomorrow.

Murphy's eating his portions of chicken smoothie like it's the best thing ever, and Sophie ate her plain chopped chicken over expensive premium kibble with one jealous eye on him and his happy, enthusiastic slurping. I had to give her a taste (so she wouldn't just knock him out of the way and eat his dinner) and she gobbled it up too.

I'm sure this isn't perfectly balanced canine nutrition, but in Sophie's case, the base of her meal is actual dog food, and in Murphy's case, puh-leeze. He's nearly 15, toothless, deaf, nearly blind, and has lymphangiectasia eating up his guts.  Basically, we've reached the "one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel" stage of life, and if he's happy and bouncy and eating and not throwing up, and has renewed energy from this "imbalanced" diet, that's all that matters.

He's feeling well enough to be a pain in the ass again.  It's wonderful to yell at him to STFU again - and he's deaf as a post, so it doesn't hurt his feelings.

Can you get orange sweet potato (the Kiwis call it Kumera) in you neighbourhood? - it will cook down to smoothy consistency very easily, adds a touch of sweetness and is packed with vitamins. But you are right - a 'balanced diet' is the least of your worries, Murphy-wise.

He's one tough little Will o the Wisp, Mighty Murphy.

Bless his little heart. He's a tough little guy. My vet had us feeding Xena sweet potatoes with rice and baby food and baked fish. She was allergic to chicken. But she loved those sweet potatoes. Never tried vanilla cupcake goldfish, though.
