Update

After I wrote last night's post, Murphy decided he'd like some vanilla goldfish crackers, and once again I wondered what was going on, and  how he was feeling. He slept well last night, on his blanket on the foot of my bed, and didn't seem to be in any distress.

This morning it's very, very cold by FL standards - only 30 degrees F, and breezy.  I took him out for a minute to pee, and he came in and went right back to his bed. I had to coax him to eat a little breakfast off my fingers.  I got him to go out again before leaving for work (by dressing him in his sweater and carrying him to a patch of grass) and I had to carry him up the stairs after more yellow diarrhea.  He's unsteady on his feet.

Leaving him to go to work was so hard, I feel terrible.

I'm going to call the vet when I get to the office. Unfortunately, I'm still fairly new on my job and I don't want to be one of Those People who takes off on Friday for "a sick dog," because somehow, aside from my immediate team, I'm not sure the rest of management would understand.  But if they can see him late this afternoon, I will work through lunch, leave early and take him in.  I'm still hoping they will find inflammation but no obstruction, and it can be treated with medication.  Surgery is out of the question.  He's very sick. Your prayers are appreciated more than I can say.

I always check in on Murphy, wishing him the best. Hope he is comfortable and possibly gets more interested in food? The very best to you.

Praying for all of you. This is such a hard part of loving them. You're in my thoughts and prayers, Catherine. As are Murphy and Sophie.

I agree with Karen---this is the only really bad part of having a dog.

I'll be thinking of you and Murphy. You're the Mom and you and the vet will figure out what is best for him.

Loving thoughts for Murphy from the Great Southern Land.
This is so hard. Have you ever read "The Power of the Dog' by Rudyard Kipling? He may have been a jingoistic old imperialist is many ways but old Rudyard was spot on about dogs.
