Walk More. It's Good for You.

Just a few days in to my "wear a pedometer every day" mission for March, and I'm feeling the effect. I have so much more energy this week compared to last, though I'm actually sleeping less.  It has to be the benefit of moving more.

I'm sleeping a lot less in the last few days, and that's probably not a good thing.  Last night I took Sophie for a pre-bedtime walk (just about 20 minutes at a leisurely pace) around 9:30, and couldn't fall asleep until after 11.  Exercise energizes me and that's a good thing, but I wake up at 5, so the last few days I've been running on less than my normal 7 hours. I'm thinking this is going to catch up with me at some point, and I'm certainly not doing it intentionally, but right now I'm feeling energized and more alert.

And I think it's important to emphasize that I'm NOT doing some strenuous power walk program, I'm just making a conscious effort to get in at least 10k steps every day on weekdays, when I'm ordinarily far too sedentary. Sophie's enjoying it too. However, I'm on my second big cup of coffee and blogging from bed while she's still snoring.  Extra exercise isn't interfering with HER sleep.

How's Murphy? Still doing okay!  He's put on some weight and is eating well, but of course he's still nearly 15 and has zero interest in extra walkies.

And on that note, I need to get these two out of bed and out for their first walkie of the day. It's Wednesday already!
