Monday, and a New Madness Begins

Day One without the boss - I can't wait to see how this works out in real time. I'm not overly stressed about it. I've been cultivating a healthy level of detachment, for the sake of my own sanity and blood pressure.

Meanwhile, this weekend I bought myself a birthday present! Longtime readers may recall that I get myself two birthday presents each year, one on my actual birthday, the other on my "un-birthday," February 22nd, the day of my brain aneurysm. I celebrate my birthday, and also the day I nearly didn't get to have any more birthdays.

(This year, Murphy was the one busy not dying that weekend, and it went by without any acknowledgement.)

So, I'd been thinking for months about what I wanted for my birthday. I've been saving my pennies and selling off some things I didn't use anymore, and was squirreling away the funds for a new camera. I'd been thinking I really wanted a DSLR camera, and was researching that topic when my dear friend Bess bought a new camera. She'd done her homework too, and selected a kind of camera I'd not considered, Fujifilm FinePix S1 16 MP Digital Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Black).

And I realized that these are the features I've been craving - the super zoom, the macro, and all in one, no need to haul a bag of lenses to Disney World! So I went off on my own research tangent, comparing brands and features, and ended up choosing one very similar to hers: Fujifilm FinePix S9400W 16 MP Digital Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Black)

The differences, as far as I can tell, are that her model has more all-weather sealing, and a fancier LED screen; two features I decided weren't that important to me. I also bought this bundle of goodies: Starter Accessories Kit For The Fuji Fujifilm Finepix S8200, S8300, S8400, S8500, S6700, S6800, S6900, S4600, S4700, S4800, S8600, S9200, S9400W, S9800, S9900W Digital Camera Includes Deluxe Carrying Case + 50" Tripod With Case + Mini HDMI Cable + More because it was just such a deal. I needed a bag anyway, and why not get a bag and tripod and other goodies for about the same price?

I'm so excited, I can't wait for it to arrive. I'm taking a couple of vacation days around my birthday, Friday and Monday, and you can bet I'll be playing with my new camera during most of my time off. Happy Birthday to ME!

And now it's time to start the work week. The adventure continues.

I'm in the market for a new camera, so I'll be curious to hear what you think about your new one. Sounds like you've got an excellent plan in place for celebrating your birthday!
