Oh no, Sophie!

Sophie's not feeling well. And even more strangely, her symptoms are remarkably similar to Murphy's long-standing condition.

She's had off-and-on diarrhea for a few weeks. We've been to the vet twice, and she's on prescription food and getting meds for giardiasis, because Dr. M says she's seen a few cases lately. Obviously I don't let Sophie wander and eat strange things outdoors, but as she does like to sniff every blade of grass on our walks, I suppose it's possible that she picked something up that way. If that doesn't fix her, we'll have to send a poop sample out for a full panel of lab tests.

I'm just baffled - she's always been the healthy dog with the normal poop. Murphy passes, and now she develops symptoms similar to his? That's absolutely bizarre. Her poop has been runny for weeks, occasionally completely liquid, but not frequent. Yesterday I came home from work and was greeted by that old familar smell - for the first time, she'd had an accident in the house. I had a very unpleasant sense of deja vu - after three months of not coming home to cleanup duty, once again I had to put down my stuff and pick up the cleaning supplies as soon as I walked in the door.

And she's lost some weight - not a lot, the vet's office scales aren't that precise, but a few ounces. She's still chipper and enthused about walks and treats, but she's unhappy about being on prescription food, and that alone may account for the weight loss.

Meanwhile, I have a cold that has developed into laryngitis. I don't feel that awful, but head feels full of concrete and my voice is gone this morning. I'm just going to keep the hot tea flowing and wait it out, this too shall pass. I have to go to work.

Send healing thoughts, especially to my little Sophiegirl. I don't like this at all.

Is it correct to assume that Sophie is on grain-free food. That was the ticket for both my rescue pooches. Feel better. BridgetG

Healing thoughts going out to both of you. I have found my dog with the longstanding poop issues has done well with yogurt, white rice and crockpot cooked chicken mixed together as a side to his bit of canned dog food. White rice to help bind it up, yogurt for his tummy, and the chicken to make sure he eats it.

Good luck to you both!

White light to you both - beaming south from Virginia.

I wish I could cuddle you both. always with the understanding that either of you actually wanted to be cuddled.
